What type of education and/or training do I need?

Training can be obtained through one year, on-the-job instruction or through a formal phlebotomy certificate program, which lasts several months.

Do I need a license or certification for this career?

Licensure is not required in the State of Connecticut.

What will my job be like?

Phlebotomists draw blood samples from people by venipuncture, skin puncture, and keep careful records of all proceduresfor medical tests and blood donations. Safety precautions are of utmost concern to the phlebotomist to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases. Phlebotomists are instructed to adhere to strict policies and procedures accurately and efficiently while treating the patient with care.
