Medical secretaries can receive education through academic
programs at many community colleges in the state. However,
high school graduates who have basic office skills may
qualify for entry-level secretarial positions. |

| What
will my job be like? Medical secretaries
perform administrative duties in a medical office or in
a health-related industry, such as insurance. Familiarity
with medical terminology, claims management, and filing
procedures is often required. Strong grammar and spelling
abilities are essential. Duties may include word processing,
data entry, reception and database management, as well
as interaction with vendors and patients. Sensitivity
to confidential matters is required. |
| Where
could I work? Most medical secretaries are
full-time employees who work a standard 40-hour week.
However, office work can lend itself to alternative or
flexible working arrangements, such as part-time work
or job sharing.
